KOLKATA: Metro Railway is adding more services during the weekends for Puja shoppers along the north-south corridor, which connects or passes close by some of the major commercial hubs across the city.
From this Saturday, the Metro will start running 36 more trains. On Sundays, there will be four more services. But these are all special trains, available to those with identity cards of their organizations. Metro will run 214 daily services (107 Up and 107 Down) instead of 178 services on Saturdays from September 25.
During peak hours, Saturday services will be available at 7-minute intervals. There will be 120 services (60 in each direction) instead of 116 on Sundays from September 26. Saturday services will be from 7.30am till 10.30pm and Sunday operations from 10am till 10.30pm.
Metro have been running “staff maintenance specials” on Saturdays and Sundays for essential workers across sectors. Now, there will be more of these specials.
