Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav cycle rally leaves to Delhi from Kolkata – Times of India

KOLKATA: Commemorating the 75th Independence Day celebration (Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav), a 3,000 km cycle rally from Shillong to New Delhi organised by the Assam Rifles was flagged off from Kolkata as it continued its onward march to Delhi.
The rally had begun on September 5 from Shillong with a motto to touch important places associated with India’s freedom movement finally culminating at Raj Ghat, New Delhi on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on October 2.
The cyclists had reached Kolkata on Saturday, September 11 from Nabagram in Bengal. On Sunday, under “Fit India Movement” a Yoga program was organised at NCC Club House in Kolkata. This was followed by a tree plantation drive under the theme “Green India Mission”. The Cycle Rally team also visited Victoria Memorial amongst other historical places related to the nation’s freedom struggle.
The rally was flagged off from Fort William in Kolkata by outgoing GOC Bengal Sub Area, Major General Satbir Singh, who has also been Deputy Inspector General of Assam Rifles North. The flagging off ceremony included a pipe band display and felicitation of 14 freedom fighters.
