KOLKATA: West Bengal Judicial Service Association has appealed to the chief justice of Calcutta high court to review the situation before the physical opening the courts as two civil judges of Alipore had tested Covid-19 positive.
It might be recalled that the high court had wanted physical hearing to restore from June 15.
Manas Kumar Pal in a letter to the chief Justice mentioned about two judges in his letter of June 5 and stated that for it many judicial officials are feeling scary.
Pal said that they appealed to the chief justice as things are not very bright. He said that the two civil judges affected were on rotational duty as now the court is operating through video conference mode.
The HC has asked the district judges to take a final call before opening the courts, Pal said. He added that the district judges can better understand the ground reality.
Pal wanted that the courts should be thoroughly sanitized every day twice keeping in mind the health and hygiene of the court officials, staff and litigants.
Rabindranath Samanta, chief judge of city civil court said that the bar association is being consulted before reopening the court.” We are keeping health and safety norms as a priority before reopening the court physically” the judge said.
Subrata Mukherjee, a high court advocate sitting at his Ballygunge Place chamber said that safety is the prime concern. “Most lawyers are facing huge financial crisis, so we are looking for the courts to reopen. But safety is to be maintained, as one of our colleagues Gobindo Pal an advocate of Alipore court died due to corona.”
