KOLKATA: The Enforcement Branch of Kolkata Police conducted raids at 40 city markets on Friday following the instruction of chief minister Mamata Banerjee who warned traders against hoarding goods and ruled out the rumour that markets will be “locked down”.
Cops said they have already identified some rumour mongers. “We aimed at ensuring that there was no hoarding of goods and that people were not being overcharged. Secondly, we checked whether any shop was shut,” said DC (EB) Biswajit Ghosh.
